Remutaka Forest Park.

Coast Road, Wainuiomata, Lower Hutt 5373, New Zealand

1 recommendation

One of the Ngā Haerenga Great Rides and one of the ten most significant railway heritage sites in the world — right here in the Wellington region. The 122km trail connects the Hutt Valley to the Wairarapa, but the star is the old rail trail section through Remutaka Forest Park — 18km of gently graded track, swing bridges, and a 570-metre tunnel you'll need lights for. Built in 1878, and cycling through it still feels like time travel.
